Praised for his clear interpretive powers, technical finesse and engaging performances, Samuel Hines is an award-winning classical guitarist from Southern California. After an arbitrary decision to teach himself classical guitar at the start of high school, Hines’ passion for music quickly grew into a calling that would become his career. Hines has enjoyed performing and competing throughout the United States, in Northern and Southern California, Oregon, Washington, as well as Nevada, Colorado, Texas, Indiana and Wisconsin, among others.

hines2Samuel has performed in master classes for esteemed artists such as Christopher Parkening, Scott Tennant, William Kanengiser, Andrew York, Rene Izquierdo, Edoardo Catamario, Martha Masters, Thomas Viloteau, David Grimes, Luis Orlandini, Ricardo Gallen, Matt Denman and others.

Hines has also performed in numerous chamber music groups; besides guitar duets, trios, and quartets he’s collaborated with orchestra, flute, violin, voice, piano, organ, string quartet, and with percussion and dancers.

He’s also competed in several competitions, winning the 2012 Sigma Alpha Iota scholarship, the 2013 Aron Green ASTA Guitar Competition, the 2013 Musical Arts Competition of Orange County, the Vanguard University Concerto Competition. He was selected as one of 15 competitors for the 2012 Parkening International Guitar Competition, and one of 5 competing from the United States. He was a 2nd place recipient at the 2014 Pacific Guitar Festival in Monrovia a semifinalist in the 2012 Indiana International Guitar Competition and Festival, a Finalist in the 2013 Sierra Nevada Guitar Competition and was named the 3rd prize recipient at the 2011 Pacific Guitar Festival in Monrovia.

He’s performed at many venues, both solo and featured with the Vanguard Guitar Ensemble, in and throughout Southern and Northern California, Oregon, Nevada, Colorado, Indiana, Washington, including the Orange County Performing Arts Center, at Segerstrom Hall, at Museum of Latin American Art, (MoLAA), Long Beach Classical Guitar Society, Ventura Classical Guitar Society, St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, in Newport Beach, and was featured on TV for Channel 6, M55 services.

Samuel Hines is graduate of Vanguard University of Southern California, receiving his Bachelors in Music Performance, under the tutelage Michael Nigro, and is continuing his studies for his Masters of Music at the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, with Rene Izquierdo, for whom he is also the Graduate Teaching Assistant.
