Growing Up among Guitars
Bernardo Romero has been surrounded by guitar playing since birth, and he grew up watching his uncle, Pepe Romero Jr., transform beautiful woods into magnificent guitars. From early childhood he was talented in both guitar playing and wood carving, but his love of guitar making led him to become a professional luthier.
From Granada to San Diego
He began his first guitar under the tutelage of Juan Miguel Carmona in Granada, Spain, and completed it in San Diego with his uncle; that guitar, labeled No. 1 in 2013, carries a handwritten thank-you to both teachers. From the beginning Bernardo's guitars have been concert instruments, used by internationally acclaimed virtuosos – his grandfather Pepe Romero has played them at the Rheingau and Schleswig-Holstein Music Festivals.
