2013 Bernardo Romero #1 SP/IN

A 2013 classical guitar by Bernardo Romero, with a spruce top and Indian rosewood back and sides – his very first guitar, No. 1.

Begun in Granada, Finished in San Diego

Bernardo started this guitar in Granada, Spain, under the watchful eye of Juan Miguel Carmona, then brought it halfway through the build to San Diego, where he finished it with his uncle, Pepe Romero Jr. – both are credited on the label, with a handwritten thank-you to "Juanmi" and "Uncle Pepe". It shares features of the Granada school and of the Rodríguez and Santos influence in his uncle's guitars.

Sound and Condition

It has a big, bold sound, wide and full in every register, with rich but controlled overtones around a focused fundamental, excellent separation, an immediate attack and balanced sustain. Pre-owned, it is in excellent condition with minor finish wear.

Bernardo Romero: A New Generation of the Romero Family

Bernardo Romero is the eldest grandson of Pepe Romero and grew up watching his uncle, Pepe Romero Jr., turn beautiful woods into magnificent guitars. Gifted in both guitar playing and wood carving, he began his first guitar under Juan Miguel Carmona in Granada, Spain, and finished it in San Diego with Pepe Jr. He builds in San Diego, California.

From the start Bernardo's guitars have been concert instruments, used by internationally acclaimed guitarists – his grandfather Pepe Romero has played them at the Rheingau and Schleswig-Holstein music festivals.
