2011 Dominique Field SP/CSAR

Piazzolla’s Libertango for Solo Guitar | played by Celil Refik Kaya | Guitar: 2011 Dominique Field

Description

Cover of Orfeo Magazine No. 7, French School LuthieryThis 2011 Dominique Field (No. 208) is a pre-owned classical guitar with a spruce top and CSA rosewood back and sides, made in France by one of the great names of the French school of guitar making.

Dominique Field: Heir to Bouchet and Friederich

Dominique Field’s contribution to French lutherie is now universally regarded to be as important, innovative and timeless as that of his predecessors and colleagues, Robert Bouchet and Daniel Friederich. In our opinion, Field is simply one of the best makers in the world today.

Refined, Understated Craftsmanship

Aesthetically this guitar is extremely refined in an understated way – from the shape of the plantilla, to the head carving, to the intricate and elegant rosette. His instruments are meticulously built with a level of detail found in only an elite handful of other makers – it’s simply remarkable just how clean the fit and finish of his instruments are.

Sound

His sound is very rarified and at the same time, extremely powerful. The tonal color palette is huge on this guitar and the dynamic range second to none – this 2011 example (#208) has a gorgeous, powerful tone.

Condition: A Field Without the Wait

It is in immaculate condition – no cracks, no repairs and only very slight wear in the finish, the result of years of very careful but regular use. Field’s wait-list is currently 17 years, making these virtually impossible to acquire. This is a rare opportunity to own a top example of this maker’s work without sitting on a long wait-list.

Background

Dominique Field and the French School of Guitar Making

Dominique Field is now the leading builder in the French school of guitar making (and arguably one of the top in the world) that has its origins in Paris in the 19th century with Pons and Pons Aîné, who were the teachers/mentors of René-François Lacote – France’s first superstar in guitar making. Spaniard Julián Gómez Ramírez settled in Paris and became active c. 1910, deeply influencing Robert Bouchet, who initially played on a Gómez Ramírez guitar before becoming a luthier himself. Robert Bouchet of course would have a profound influence on Daniel Friederich and Dominique Field, setting the standard for the modern French guitar in the 20th century and beyond.

Played by Leading Guitarists

Field’s guitars have been played by numerous top guitarists including (to name but just a few!) Sergio Assad, Vladimir Mikulka, Iván Rijos, Eduardo Isaac, Adam Holzman, Scott Tennant, Vicente Amigo, Adam Levin, Raphaël Feuillâtre, Judicaël Perroy, Hubert Käppel, Roman Viazovskiy and both members of the Montenegrin Guitar Duo (Goran Krivokapić and Danijel Cerović). Odair Assad and René Izquierdo are also awaiting new Field guitars.

GSI is extremely proud to be Dominique Field’s only dealer in the USA.
