Born in Germany, luthier Otto Rauch has been playing guitar since childhood and making guitars since the 1980s. In addition to his own guitar design, he has produced models in the style of Hauser, Torres, Humphrey and many others, as well as even cellos and electric guitars. His instruments have been played by Angel Romero, Frank Bungarten and others. We are pleased to be representing Rauch and his instruments here at GSI.
This particular guitar is and instrument of his own design although influenced by the great traditional masters of the past, most notably Hauser I. It features a nicely bearclawed Italian spruce top, birdseye maple for back and sides, a beautifully veneered head with rosewood, elm and birdseye maple, Alessi tuners with snakewood buttons, snakewood and koa bindings and a french polish with no stain to maintain the original colors of the woods. The rosette features a bordeaux red mosaic and the bridge is rosewood with the same bordeaux mosaic and an abalone bone saddle. Otto clearly enjoys mixing a variety of woods to achieve a beautiful result in his instruments. Fit, finish and material choice are all top notch, and the guitar is set up for easy, comfortable playability. The tone and character are both firm and open, with excellent balance and separation. A fantastic take on the classic Hauser-style instrument.
