2015 Masaki Sakurai "PC" CD/CSAR

Mr. Masaki Sakurai, nephew of the greatest luthier from Japan, Masaru Kohno, won the first prize in the 1988 Paris International Guitar Luthiers Competition. This model, "PC" or "Paris Competition" is the same design as the 1988 guitar which won the prize. A modest look at the instrument reveals a beautiful design and exacting execution. Elements in the headstock and rosette are suggestive of Bouchet while the thick maple binding harkens back to the early Madrid school. This eclectic combination of styles produces what we believe to be a very tasteful, yet modern instrument. From a playability point of view, the double ebony reinforcing strips in the back of the neck allow for a very accurate setup, so the action is low and easy without buzzing. The tone is full and robust - bright yet warm. There is plenty of power here for any concert situation, including ensemble settings. Overall, a very robust and charming instrument. Although used, it has only modest wear in the finish from normal use.
