This guitar was built in the famous Jose Ramirez III workshop, which for over half a century has produced instruments performed on by countless professionals from Sting to Segovia, Chet Atkins to Sabicas and Lee Ritenour to Christopher Parkening.
The tone of this guitar has that classic, identifiable Ramirez sound from this era - a rich, thick and yet clear voice throughout, and has that essential warm, mysterious and moody quality that made Ramirez famous. Stamped initials internally are IM (Ignacio Rozas) who worked for José Ramirez III from 1959 until 1969. (For a complete list of Ramirez luthiers from this era, click here). It has one small repaired crack in the lower bout of the top (near the edge) that is repaired internally with glue, as well as a hairline crack in the back, just off to the side of the back brace that is also repaired internally with glue only. The top has also been refinished in shellac but the rest of the instrument retains its original lacquer finish. It is in otherwise excellent playing condition and a great example of a of a classic Ramirez 1a from their golden era made with gorgeous materials.
