Description

This is a fantastic "Centenario" model, which comes from a series of guitars produced by Miguel Rodriguez Jr. and his son Pepe during the 1990's. We last had this guitar here at GSI over a decade ago, and it is the very instrument used to record the opening track (Barrios' Vals Op. 8, No. 4) of our first GSI-produced CD with Marc Teicholz, "Valseana", and it sounds as great today as it did then! The "Centenario" guitars are known for featuring not only the finest of materials (notably the back and sides on this guitar were selected from the "Churchdoor" stock used most famously in the 1970s) but also for sporting additional inlay in the rosette and top purfling. As is customary for these instruments, sound is huge and full with lightning-fast response. Playability is very easy thanks to the slender and comfortable neck shape. Rodriguez classical guitars are known to have a flamenco response to them, giving them great bounce and instant presence and this one has this very exciting quality throughout all registers. The tone is silky, smooth, very even and clean with dark, powerful basses and thick trebles which carry a lot of weight. The separation between voices is superb making it a great instrument for virtually any style of music - not just Spanish repertoire, but even contrapuntal music from the Renaissance and Baroque. Condition is excellent and original with no cracks or repairs. This is a very desirable Rodriguez for its quality (and quantity) of sound, superb playability and unmatched aesthetic beauty – collector and performer alike will find this to be an extremely exciting instrument to own and play.
