Description
A 2019 "Limited" classical guitar by Woonsun Lee, with a spruce top and CSA rosewood back and sides from his limited stock, as the label notes.
In the video above, Cristobal Selame plays Baden Powell's "Retrato Brasileiro" on this guitar.
Spruce Clarity, Cedar Richness
The spruce top brings out clarity and separation between voices, yet the tone has the full richness usually associated with cedar. Like all Woonsun's guitars it has the weight of a Madrid-style guitar with the loose, quick response of the southern Spanish schools, and it is easy for both hands.
The Lotus Rosette
An origami-lotus motif in long-grain wood fills the center of the rosette, and maple lines in the tie block, head veneer and purfling complete a tasteful, distinctive look.
Background
Woonsun Lee: Korean Classical Guitar Maker
Woonsun Lee is a South Korean classical guitar maker in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province. A guitarist first – he decided to devote his life to the guitar after hearing Kazuhito Yamashita play Rodrigo's "Concierto de Aranjuez" – he apprenticed in Paju, building hundreds of student and concert guitars, restoring historical instruments and studying the models of Torres and Bouchet. In 2009 he set up his own workshop, building only concert guitars.
Exclusively at GSI in the USA
His style is understated, elegant and flawlessly executed, recognizable by the origami-lotus motif in the rosette and fine maple accents in the tie block, head and purfling. His "Limited" guitars are made from woods of limited stock, as the label notes. GSI is Woonsun Lee's exclusive dealer in the USA.
