Description

This guitar is one of three models in a new line of instruments created by master luthier (and bowed instrument maker) Lorenzo Frignani and his son, Eugenio. This project, called "Liuteria Frignani" was initiated following Eugenio’s recent entry into the workshop, combining Lorenzo’s decades of craftsmanship with Eugenio’s commercial background. Like the replicas that Lorenzo has himself been building for decades, this model is also a copy both in regards to sound and to the appearance of an original 1910 Manuel Ramirez in Lorenzo's personal guitar collection. In the spirit of creating a more affordable yet high-quality concert guitar, it was designed in the Frignani workshop with the original guitar as the reference, including proportions, thicknesses, dimensions and aesthetics (including head shape, rosette, inlays, etc.). Then main construction is done in Spain by two veteran luthiers - Genis & Prat of the old Picado (previously Taurus) workshop. Final assembly, setup and varnishing of the guitar is done back in Italy in the Frignani shop. The result is an incredibly impressive concert-level guitar with lightweight feel like the original with a beautiful, lyrical and old-world Spanish sound. Playability is a breeze with a quick response to the attack, making it very friendly to both hands.

In Italy, Lorenzo's work has long been appreciated by such performers as Angelo Gilardino, Sandro Torlontano, Andrea Dieci and Stefano Grondona, who have played on his replicas (as well as the original) and remark that they do indeed successfully capture the sound and feel of the original. Frignani believes that offering an instrument like this provides a larger number of players access to this style of guitar at a much lower cost than obtaining an original, and has also found that it has been welcomed by players who do not want to risk touring with priceless vintage instruments. We are delighted to be able to offer this model and look forward to seeing many more!
