Description

This is Luis' "Homenaje a Torres". Rather than being an exact copy of a particular Torres guitar, this is instead his own design infused with many of the concepts and details from the instruments of Torres’ First Epoch. The "Torres" features include sides that are thinner than Luis' normal thickness, an open lower harmonic bar, a brass tornavoz, a headstock modeled after the classic First Epoch Torres head shape, and a rosette and top purfling design taken from an original 1862 Torres. Where it diverges from Torres are in the nut width of 52mm, a slightly larger plantilla than the largest Torres guitars, and continuous linings that are not kerfed, but solid and laminated. One especially unique feature of this guitar is the removable tornavoz which he implemented to make the instrument accessible for repairs and to give players a choice whether to use it or not. The sound of this guitar captures the spirit of Torres surprisingly well - the tornavoz is very effective at lowering the body resonance so that the bass notes in particular have that characteristic low bottom-end found in vintage guitars fitted with a tornavoz. The trebles are sparkling and brilliant. The guitar practically plays itself - effortless for both right and left hands, it has immediate response and plenty of power to fill any room. Materials are beautiful - this instrument is his first to us to feature a beautiful set of Indian laurel for the back and sides. Overall a real achievement and highly successful "Homenaje" from this fine maker. Although used it is in excellent condition with only minor wear in the finish.
