Description
A 2024 "Friederich/Lagoya" classical guitar by Oscar Trezzini, with a spruce top from Daniel Friederich's stock that was reserved for Alexandre Lagoya, and CSA rosewood back and sides – No. 273, made on Madeira.
In the videos above, we present this guitar, and Keith Rodriguez plays the Loure from Bach's BWV 1006a on it.
A Top Reserved for Lagoya
This guitar is built with some of Daniel Friederich's materials, including one of two spruce tops that had originally been reserved for the great guitarist Alexandre Lagoya, as the pencil marking on the top shows (see the gallery). The back and sides are a striking set of CSA rosewood we reserved for this guitar several years ago – drop-dead beautiful materials.
Friederich's Ideas, Not a Replica
Friederich was not a fan of replicas of his work, so Oscar has enhanced his own design with many of his ideas: a slightly wider plantilla, to give the right body resonance for Friederich's soundhole diameter; a 650 mm scale instead of his usual 644 mm, so he can use Friederich's fret-slotting jig; a fingerboard with a very slight double twist; and a compensated saddle and nut. He has also been working on floating longitudinal bars on the back, which make the back more active – and he believes he has found the change he was looking for. Like Friederich he doubles the sides, but with CSA rosewood rather than mahogany, reduced in thickness once glued.
Chocolate Silk
The tone is like chocolate silk: rich, creamy and full notes with fantastic overtones, yet amazing balance and separation, excellent dynamic range, great color and an extra-responsive touch. It sounds as gorgeous as it looks.

Background
Oscar Trezzini: From Buenos Aires to Madeira
Oscar Trezzini began making guitars in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1982, under the luthiers Pedro Malossetti and Héctor Curto. After building many kinds of guitars he settled on the classical guitar, which he builds exclusively. In Geneva, Switzerland, he benefited from the advice of his friend and mentor Dominique Field, and today he works on the Portuguese island of Madeira, in a workshop with an ocean view and controlled humidity.
The Friederich Connection
In 2016 Oscar became friends with Daniel Friederich, and after Friederich retired he acquired much of what the master had left – wood, instruments, measuring devices and hand tools – together with the workbenches of Friederich and Robert Bouchet. Friederich's ideas and materials have given his recent guitars a new direction.
