Built in the famous original Bernabe workshop at Cuchilleros in the center of Madrid, this is a classic, older guitar in 'like-new' condition. It was the personal guitar of Paulino Bernabe himself, until sold to Russell Cleveland and features some beautifully detailed and graceful touches not typical of Bernabe, including the extra fine work in the rosette, the delicate "black-blue-black" purfling around the top, back, center strip, head and even tie-block, as well as a bridge (and tie block) that are rounded at the extremites, rather than squared off. A unique and beautiful looking guitar by all measures. It is also lightly built - unusual for Bernabe (or for any Madrid builder at this time) and much more reminiscent of the Madrid guitars of the first half of the twentieth century - from the likes of Manuel Ramirez, Santos Hernandez or Domingo Esteso. Due to its lightweight build, it has immediate response, almost like a flamenco, yet retains the full power of a great Bernabe. Playability is a breeze with a very easy neck shape, reinforced (as usual) from the "t-joint" piece of ebony inlaid into the back of the neck. This is truly a great and unique Bernabe all around.
