Description

Jose Vigil was born into a family of musicians and has played guitar since his teens. His love of woodworking combined with musical background naturally led him to guitar construction and he settled in Granada and was welcomed warmly into the guitar making community where he received training, advice and friendship with the veterans of the craft, including Antonio Marin, Rafael Moreno Rodriguez as well as from Edmund and Florian Blochinger during their regular visits to Granada.

Being in the "Granada" school, his guitars have a slightly more compact and lightweight body size, with great speed of response and big volume with many nuances and colors of sound. It has a great amount of clarity and separation as one would expect yet at the same time it also has a nice warm, almost "dark" quality to the sound which gives it an alluring mystique.

Materials on this guitar are spectacular - this features a first-rate set of CSA rosewood for the back and sides - of course Jose chooses his materials primarily for their structural and sonic considerations but in this case we cannot ignore just how beautiful the patterning and color is in the grain. He's matched it with a lovely quarter-sawn spruce top, and it's also worth noting that Jose has exquisite taste for his decorative elements and inlay designs - the meticulously-made rosette in particular has the "wave" pattern in the central mosaic that was also favored by the Manuel Ramirez workers, in particular Santos Hernandez. This is a fantastic guitar in every way, built by one of today's top Granada builders.
