Originally from Argentina, Paula Lazzarini had been working out of her workshop in Cremona, Italy for several years. However, this is our first guitar from her to be completed from her brand-new location in Turin, where she recently moved to accept a teaching position at a nearby musical instrument-making college called Accademia Liuteria Piamontese San Filippo. In this college, she teaches a course on Stringed Instrument Construction. We first met Paula in 2021 when she took the FIRST prize in the 4th International "Antonio Marin Montero" Guitar Building Competition in Granada, Spain. This guitar is based exactly on the specs of the winning guitar, although she has selected some upgraded materials for the back and sides - a gorgeous set of dramatically figured ziricote. Her work won the jury over for its understated yet precise craftsmanship, bold yet refined quality of tone, and easy playabilty due to its being very responsive to both right and left hands. Internal bracing is primarily inspired by Daniel Friederich and the resulting sound is clearly similar, particularly in the deep richness of overtone content in every note while retaining great clarity and separation/balance between notes. This instrument is everything the winning instrument was, and we are thrilled to have it here at GSI.
